friday

Everything is lime green. Green grass, green trees. Leafing out is almost over. Even my beautyberry is starting to put out leaves on its long bare limbs.

A few weeks ago a work colleague let me dig up three sucker shoots from the roots of her flowering quince. Upon digging them up, I really doubted if they would actually root as a separate plant. The roots were so hard and woody. And yet, one kept a pair of leaves without wilting, and it and another one have added leaf buds.

Late tulips and late planted daffodils still flower in the garden. My bare rooted roses are starting to show signs of budding out. I've noticed several larkspur seedlings.

I'd like to plant two New Dawn climbing roses by the front porch and garage. It is the most elegant and durable of climbers, with whitish pink roses.
