gays in the church

Karen at Heretic's Corner described how some religious folk were working the San Francisco City Hall last month, trying to prevent gay marriages through force and invective. She then wrote:

The fundamental disconnect here is that a lot of those folks don’t understand that for many of us who identify as gay and lesbian Christians, the debate as to whether the outward expression of our sexual orientation is sinful is a settled matter that came about after long and painful spiritual struggle. Now we fight an entirely different interior battle against sin than the one conservative Christians would like us to have. For those of us who are in relationships that are faithful and monogamous, the sin isn’t in those relationships. It’s in living a life of holiness within those relationships, and to maintain our relationship with Christ and his Gospels in the face of hostility from both the churches and from within our GLBT communities. After many years of often-tortured discernment, this is the place where I stand, and it is within this battle that I perform my current ministries and prepare myself for future ones.

This sums up what I've been thinking since August as Christians within the Church have been arguing the role of gay people as clergy, bishops and married couples.
