in the wall

For weeks, Franklin the dog has detected the sounds of animals in either the wall or the flooring. Today we heard the tiny cries of infant animals. He is beside himself, for this is what he was bred to do, to locate those animals, dig down to them, and kill them.

His emotion is typical of a terrier, that is, as if a firebell has rung and there is fast work to be done. He runs around the living roon as if action is needed.

But he is also studying and patient ... he is willing to sit for long period and stare into the floor, smelling and listening intently.
