cities, part 3

Large cities often have a way of grabbing you by the throat.

They are loud, pulsating, energetic. They can also be crowded, noisy, ugly.

Americans don't reflect much on our cities. Reflection is not in our character. Like a living Whitman poem, we are restless, making new places. We discard the past and are incurious about how we live. We lust for new things. We lust for fun shopping experiences.

I've decided that I need to observe more the city where I live, and perhaps with the kind of eye I use in observing my garden. No, not for the blog. Just for me, for my own sense of how we live our lives, the stage sets on which we work and play.
