A few seasons back, Indianapolis native Angela Brown sang in the Indianapolis Opera production of Porgy and Bess. She returned the next season to make her debut of the title role in Aida. A few weeks ago she made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Aida. This morning, the New York Times put a story about her career on the front page of the newspaper. I think it is safe to say that opera singers often do not show up on the front page of the Times.
She has a beautiful, powerful voice. I don't know how many local folk know about her, but I bet we will be hearing alot more about her.
