dogs

Friends got me to go to the big dog show at the State Fair Grounds last weekend. The best thing about dog shows is walking around and seeing the most beautiful and interesting dogs. The worst is watching the poor poodles and spaniels getting brushed out, reminding one about how artificial and arbitrary it is to have pure breed animals in competition.

I've always thought breeds were a product of the British, who until recently, ran their society so that everyone knew their place.

This weekend, several friends got together to knit at a place in the countryside just south of Bloomington. We had 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, two Whippets, and one Scotty. Some negotiations took place between the dogs over the course of a few hours and then they got along ok.

The adults knitted and talked while the animals ran around playing games with each other.
