My clumps of yellow daffodils are mostly open. And the forsythia is starting to hint at opening. Soon my front garden will be highlighted in yellow, a most cheerful color amid the gray of early spring.

James -- you happen to live in the most beautiful place for gardening at springtime. Annuals are ok, but why settle for them when perennials and herbs can give you something more exciting and visually interesting?
Of course, when I lived in DC, I got rid of all of our grass. Our postage stamp yard became a garden with wood-chipped paths circuling through it.
I miss the beautiful spring there. Sigh.
