homecoming

Last night's rehearsal was a homecoming for our choir. Our friend Mary's funeral is on Friday, and several former singers are returning to join us in celebrating her life. Many of them came last night for the first part of rehearsal to practice with us. Two former alto section leaders who were IU students are flying back for the funeral as well. I suppose some of this is about joining ranks together for one of our own, but it is also about the community of being in a choir, and particularly affection for Mary, who has been active in the choir for a long time. So we practiced the processional I am Ressurection chant, Hancock's Sanctus, Durufle's Ubi Caritas, Webster's The Dawning, and Sowerby's Nunc Dimittis.

Travis, who also passed away this week, will have his funeral on Saturday morning. He and his wife have always been incredibly kind and generous in their lives. Partner is singing -- I think Copeland's setting of the hymn Shall We Gather At The River.

Saturday night, we are going caroling throughout the community, something that has been planned for sometime.
