fallen

A large tree in the townlet fell over towards the end of last week, a day after one of the big storms blew through.

Yesterday, Franklin and I walked over to inspect it.  It is a large tree now laying on its side, filling up almost an entire front yard.

There is a certain sadness in seeing such a large tree die.  Even though its leaves are still green, they are turned askew, and what once was up high in the sky is now out of its element, stranded and beached on the grass.

The sounds of gas chain saws will soon fill the air, stripping down the thick limbs and trunk.  Every year since I've lived in the townlet, we have lost at least one major tree, and sometimes more, often due to lightning or storms.
