bloom writing

My big ole green plantain lilies are blooming. The last of my hostas to do so, they put out big stalks with hefty white flowers shaped like champagne flutes facing out in all different directions up and down the stalk.

While looking at a whole row of them last night, perky and sharp in the unseasonably cool evening light, I thought they looked like Asian calligraphy, beautiful and brilliant, the white amidst the deep green leaves.

This particular variety of hostas can be seen throughout the neighborhood. They were here when we moved into the house. I have divided several and transplanted them in different areas, all successively.
