blue

Another weekend of intensive gardening.

I discovered a clump of false forget-me-nots in the back of my yard, hiding under a tall pine tree. It's fine blue flowers are a good combination amid hostas in the shade garden. Close by, the Virginia bluebells are at their peak now. They thrive in this area. I only have two or three. There were several when I first moved here, but they were lost to Franklin's frantic puppy games that he played with Dudley, a long-haired dachshund that lived behind us. As I work on shade gardens, I will move these.

How other-worldly to find blue in flowers, soft and calming. A friend went through a long effort to cultivate a blue poppy. It comes from the Himalayas (I think) and needs a cold climate. In this year's Smith & Hawkins catalog they were pushing the blue poppy. Not much about the demands and trickiness of growing it.

A toast to a world that has blue flowers.
