The sun was bright and hot this past week, too hot for the delicate blooms of trees and bulbs. Fortunately, I kept ongoing watering on the grass and my flower beds. Too many newly planted bare root plants and a mixture seeds to let the beds dry out.

The ground has taken on a pale brown color as the sun has dried it out. March was a month of rain, but April has been mostly dry. People like this warmth, but it is hard on the plants.

We drove to Bloomington to see IU's production of Britten's opera Peter Grimes. The haze of redbuds along the road cheered me. The opera was excellent. Grand music, good portrayals, good singing, wonderful sets. Three and a half hours long. We got home after one.
