bar's closed

Today is voting day in Indiana, and according to state law, alcohol is not served until the polls close at 6:00 pm. I know this because my precinct votes at a public golf course, and the golfers line-up at the end of the day to get a beer, watching the second hand reach exactly that moment when it is legal to sell beer again.

This is a party primary election, and the only contested election on my ballot (outside of the presidential nominees, and all but Kerry have already gotten out of the race) was our township's school board race. Still, I go down the list and mark approval for all the candidates that are not contested.

We used to use large mechanical voting machines, which had a certain novelty factor for partner and me. Now we color in circles that are then fed into a digital scanner/reader.
