busy

Life has been very busy lately, busy enough that I am starting to feel as if I am not getting things accomplished.

Perhaps this is why I am looking at my garden more critically than usual. How fierce the weeds return, the tiny maple saplings, the yard ivy and yard violets. The soil is thick with their seed, and even in serious weeding, I know that a whole new crop will pop up soon.

One of the ways to retard seed germination is to put something with corn starch in it -- I think the commercial product is Preen. But I rely on seeds to germinate in my garden, so I am unwilling to put this in.

Mulch helps too, but it is only now that I will consider mulch, again, due to my concerns about letting seeds like larkspur or Brazilian verbena to germinate. I put out some old foxglove, too, but completely forgot about them. Now I have two yellow stalks of floxglove blooming.
