My Martha Stewart $2.00 K-Mart hoe with the tasteful oak stain handle and muted olive head is starting to wear out. It came loose on Saturday. My much more expensive Sears Craftsman spading fork with a fiberglass handle also broke on Saturday, but I think Sears will replace it.

The MS hoe was on special and it has served me well for many years, certainly longer than any spading fork. The hoe's wooden handle felt comfortable to the touch, much like a good wooden handled trowel (and really, as a gardener, there shouldn't be any other kind of trowel used).

I have whipped through to clean out a lot of weeds with it, fiercely and efficiently. Now it is wearing out. Not a good thing.
