Getting rid of stuff was part of my only resolution for this year, and I got rid of three boxes while cleaning out the garage this afternoon.
During all of this, I came across my college identification card. There I was, 27 years ago, a kid with a beard and shaggy hair. I had hair back then. And I also came across lots of fiction that I wrote over the years, including a novel that I started, and have restarted several times, but never finished.
It reminded me of my knitting lately, where I get so far and then start over again. I enjoy knitting, though I am not very good, and I've always enjoyed writing. But at some point, it is a good idea to finish a project or move on.
Seeing that picture was a little like running into an old friend that I haven't seen in several years. In some ways I wish I could tell that kid in the t-shirt that life is a lot more interesting than he thought it would it be. And I wish I could have that hair back.
