merton's journals

I ordered today the first three volumes of Merton's journals from a used bookstore site. I looked for copies of them while we were at Kanuga, but while they had a Merton section, it included none of his personal journals.

Susan Neville used excerpts in our writing class earlier this spring, and I've wanted to read them ever since.

I love what I've read of Thomas Merton's writings; but, like you, I've never read his journals. Maybe someday...

Jane Ellen -- I've read his devotional books off-and-on since college days in the 70s. His private journal entries (at least the excerpts I've read recently) are powerful, vivid descriptions, but also make him more human, more real. I suppose I've always been a little intimidated by him in some ways.

Life was a journey for Merton, too, and he struggled and worked through problems to the end.

Riverstone -- is this the book of letters he wrote to postulants/newbies to his order?
