assault on the family

The second term of the Bush Administration is only a few weeks old, but any efforts for the president to down-play his heightened pre-election support of a federal amendment to the Constitution to deny equal legal rights for gay American families was halted by his supporters who feel they helped elect him.

This week, the new Secretary of Education expressed her outrage at a cartoon character named Buster on a PBS children's program being shown with two very real-life Vermonters who are lesbian and in a committed relationship. In response, PBS has scuttled the episode. I wonder if the Cheneys will think the Secretary is not a very nice person for pointing out that the women were gay.

Meanwhile, our state government in Indiana proceeds with an amendment to our Constitution to deny equal legal protection for gay families within the state.
