sun

Sunshine can be a blessing, and without it we could not live. But a good friend is suffering through her second bout with skin cancer and this is a particularly difficult experience for her and for all of us who love her dearly.

Partner decided that we should do something to fight the disease and honor our friend. The result was over 100 people gathering for a meal at the parish, and then most joining in the local Take Back The Sun walk/race that was held this weekend to support research -- held appropriately in the early evening. The net result from our dinner was at least $2,500, not counting income from the 80% or so who also registered for the walk/race.

Skin cancer is on the rise. Use sun block when you go outside, particularly if you have fair skin and burn easily. When I garden it is easy to forget this advice, but I try to keep a stock of very broad brimmed straw hats for just this purpose, something that is a bit harder to find for men than for women.
