back to the weather and the garden

On Tuesday, there was a slight hint of dryness in the soil, and the atmosphere was laden with humid airs.

I thinned out a stand of red bee balm (monardia), planted the 3 tobacco plants (big white trumpet flowers on a 4-5 ft. stem of wide leaves), and the parsley.

Yesterday, the rain began, and today it is cool, 55 degrees (F) or so, and gray and once again suspended weather, keeping blooms that are open from fading too quickly, slowing ever so gently the opening of other plants.

The moved plants appear to show no shock, calmed by the rain and cool temps.

The rain and cold - well, I'm no Don, but shouldn't I have at least one iris by now??!

Mine bearded irises opened up this past week. If they're Japanese or Siberian irises, then it is too early.
