Last night, Barack Obama provided a strong message of national unity, fully engaged with his audience in the arena as well as those of us watching at home.
Perhaps it is only lip service, but I found it inspiring to hear Obama speak to the whole country, not merely so-called blue states. Public service and leadership requires thinking about the entire country's needs and concerns, not just the hot button issues of the more ideological edges.
How odd that Obama has no opponent. He'll be a great senator.

He doesn't have an opponent because his opponent was Jack Ryan, who dropped out after a sex scandal.
Oh, yes, I knew about Ryan dropping out.
As somebody said somewhere on the web, how many unpredictable anvils dropped on folks to get to him this situation where he doesn't have an opponent.
Everything I read says the Rs in Illinois are having a hard time recruiting.
