another austin garden blogger

In my quick round-up yesterday of new blogs -- hey, I always liked the name of a used furniture store in Austin back in the early 90s that was called It's New To Me -- I forgot to mention Cheep Sentiment, a garden blog from my old town, written by marthachick.

Downside of gardening in Austin is that it gets too hot. Upside is that you can grow lemon grass and rosemary (maybe throwing a blanket over them on a really cold night). And you learn about being quite careful about water.

Actually I know of incidents where rosemary has survived here, usually in sheltered, enclosed gardens. Still even with extra mulching and protection, the plants rarely survive past one winter.

We're zone 5, so it gets fairly cold, with hard frozen ground here. If were in the balmier zone 7, I think your suggestion would work. When I gardened in DC, my rosemary always survived.

Hey, thanks for the shout-out!

It's New to Me is still here, by the way. And for some odd reason, it's only 75 right now at 11:30 a.m. You know that's crazy talk for August in Austin. But the lemongrass iced tea is quite refreshing...
