ceremony

For the music portion of the dinner, the choir (treble voices and choristers only) performed Britten's Ceremony of Carols, a lovely piece. I've sang it before (in a men's choir) and heard it peformed by mixed voices, but Britten wrote it for children and women's voices.

My only complaint with the music is that it is too short. He took the words of old English carols and re-interpreted them musically.

The songs are tiny, polished gems, sang only with the accompaniment of a harp. The choir did a lovely job. It was a gift to hear them, one I glady accepted.

If one is looking for a way to re-invigorate their understanding of Christmas, I recommend them listening to this piece.
