new neighbors

Yesterday, the Colonel and Mrs. Colonel brought home from Michigan the long awaited Irish Wolfhound puppies. Molly and George are two and a half months old, about two and a half feet tall, with blondish red coat and faint diagonal stripes.

They have puppy heads on an already large body that will only get bigger. Very sweet and quite patient, the dogs seemed not much bothered as several neighbors dropped by the back deck next door to meet them. They never whined, growled or barked (the puppies, that is).

Franklin growled through the fence. He won't be allowed to hang out with them till they are bigger and able to speak up for themselves. We are hopeful that their presence in the yard will begin to calm down his fears that strangers have invaded his turf.

Meanwhile, Penelope, the Airedale, is a little miffed but acts as if the puppies don't exist. Humans aren't the only ones to practice avoidance behavior.
