central planning department

A rant.

We drove across Indiana, (a little bit of Ohio), Kentucky, Tennessee and into North Carolina yesterday.

My new theory is that our national restlessness is encouraged by the development of Eisenhower's interstate highway system. We by-pass towns, and now stop at off-ramps/on-ramps, populated by the very same architecture, signs and colors.

Our national ugliness in buildings, our sense of everything being temporary, for this moment until something better comes along, also allows us to tolerate something we used to belittle about the Soviets.

We laughed at their one size fits all central planning, but our landscape is dominated by corporate central planning.
