The clouds have had a painterly look about them, independent groupings of puffy blacks and grays, mixed with the cottony whites. Although we have had unstable systems, for the most part, the air has been cool and quiet.
I had to take Franklin to the vet today. Nothing too serious, but he will be there for a few days. The house feels empty without him running through it.
When he and I were sitting quietly on the bench at the vet's, a family came out of one of the examinging rooms. A little boy came over and asked if he could pet my dog.
"Sure," I said.
"What's his name?"
I tell him Franklin.
"That's a good name for a dog," he said.
I explain about Roosevelt, and the bronze statue of Fala in DC.
"We're going to DC someday. I'll look for that statue."
Tonight, Partner's office had a backyard dinner party and it ended up raining. We sat on our hosts' screen porch and chatted. The rain rolled across the sky with flashes of light.
The summertime mood has caught up with us, sitting on porches chatting about life.
